Class Descriptions

The Current State of Internet Security
In this focused track we'll discuss the current state of Internet security and dig into the most recent security headlines and incidents that have contributed and shaped the Internet over the past 12 months.

High profile network breaches, government data theft, cloud failure, international arrests, worms, trojans and the destruction of terror networks are only a tiny view into what has transpired over the past year.

The Interconnected Security Disconnect
Mashups and mergers are creating integrated and interconnected systems that disseminate and share our private information and most personal details. Financial information, medical records, family pictures, personal thoughts and even our physical location is being stored and analyzed to produce new products and services that we may not necessarily be comfortable with.

We'll discuss the principles behind securing customer and business data as well as the steps we can take as consumers to protect our privacy.

Additionally, we'll highlight the gross mistakes and poor industry examples that should inspire us to take our work more seriously.

Race to the Cloud, Its Security and Who is Losing
More than a year and a half ago we discussed the sheer potential of raw data and how ownership of this data creates power as well as facilitates control. In this relatively short time data storage, cloud computing and network interconnectivity has dramatically increased in size, complexity and confusion.

Cloud computing isn't a fad, but in fact is the fastest growing segment of the information technology sector while securing this cloud and its data falls further and further behind. We'll discuss this new cloud, demonstrate it's weaknesses and identify proper usages that adhere to time tested security standards.

Learn how and when to take advantage of cloud services as well as how to avoid the misfortunes of bad cloud practices.
